GMC to Give Most Cars the Power of the Hotspot by 2015

March 7, 2013

Within the next two years fans of GMC vehicles will have even more to love about their choice of cars. Last week the automaker made the announcement that by the time the 2015 models go into production in-car internet access will be available in the majority of its models. The GMC brand is definitely not the first to make this technology available to its consumers, but the plan is set to make the technology available to more of its consumers than any other competitor. When the 2015 Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC vehicles roll off of the production line, most of them will offer 4G LTE access. Right now the only partner that has been announced is AT&T, but others are likely to be announced as the 2015 year grows closer.

The most exciting element of this announcement for those who relish the idea of turning their cars into their own personal hotspots is that while other carmakers are adding 3G internet access to their vehicles, GMC is breaking through this limitation by adding 4G mobile broadband access, which is not only 10 times faster than its competition, but also allows for full use of the internet, including streaming video. This means that the hotspot doesn’t have to just be used for things like traffic updates or navigation, but for entertainment as well.

Rumors say that the first vehicles with the 4G access will be available as early as next year.
