Understanding the Impact of Car Crashes on the Human Body Inspires GM Safety Engineers

August 17, 2012

It stands to reason that the best way to figure out what safety features cars are lacking is to study what happens to people when they are involved in a crash. Most auto manufacturers spend time with crash test dummies to gain the insight necessary. GM safety engineers came up with a more reliable method to see real results of a serious collision. They are now spending time in medical school at the University of Michigan Hospital, witnessing medical procedures and surgeries to repair crash-related injuries. What safety features protect you in your Palm Springs GMC vehicle? See the whole list here: Jessup Auto Plaza.

International Center of Automotive Medicine

Over the past ten years, the International Center of Automotive Medicine at the University of Michigan gave 25 members of GM’s safety team the opportunity to participate in a prestigious Technical Fellowship for Engineers. Throughout the program, staff members spend one day per week learning from real surgeries and collision-related deaths to get true understanding of what preventative measures are needed. Program directors estimate that more than 75 million vehicles on roads around the world at this very moment have benefitted from design improvements that came as a direct result of this specialized training.

Award-Winning Designs

Have GM vehicles become safer in the past ten years? The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety seems to think so. An amazing fourteen Cadillac, GMC, Chevrolet, and Buick cars and trucks received their highest honor this year, as 2012 Top Safety Picks. The U.S. New Car Assessment Program has similar admiration for GM’s lineup. Eleven models from the GM family received five stars for their overall safety rating.

GM puts passenger safety at the very top of priority lists, ensuring that owners can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a secure, reliable vehicle. Learn more about how Palm Springs GMC protects you when you visit Jessup Auto Plaza.
