A Future Glimpse: The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu ECO, Challenging the Best of Its Segment

September 29, 2011

Chevrolet’s dynamic engineers were going for the best of the segment in ride and handling when they started creating the design of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu ECO.  And although it’s not supposed to be out till 2013, a working version was test driven at the Drive event September 15, 2011, on the General Motors Proving Ground in Michigan.  For brand new Palm Desert Chevrolet deals, visit Jessup Auto Plaza located in Cathedral City.

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu ECO is the most fuel efficient midsize sedan that’s ever been constructed by Chevrolet.  It has a GM-estimated fuel efficiency of 26-38 mpg.  The Malibu ECO comes with eAssist technology, which features a lightweight lithium-ion battery that stores energy during braking.  EAssist also features an advanced inductive motor that provides electric assist during driving situations as in climbing a grade or passing other cars on the highway.  The eAssist is a key new factor of Chevy’s all-new 2013 Malibu.

New for 2013, the Chevrolet Malibu ECO is benefiting from a combination of award-winning global architecture.  The best minds in the business have been put together for great results.  The original Malibu has been resized with wider rear and front tracks, and redesigned to include a more direct steering system and advanced chassis control systems.  The precision and comfort that is featured in the new Malibu is nothing short of refined.  Global chief engineer, Mark Moussa, says that his development team has been at all places, from the suburban boulevard to the rural back road, to test the new Malibu.  What they found was that they were possibly driving the most finely tuned Chevy midsized sedan ever created, with dynamics that were controlled during all driving situations.

The car has been updated with a state-of-the-art braking system, with the best stopping distance possible in the midsize sedan segment.  It comes with a 2.5L engine and has an output of 182 horsepower.
