GM To Offer New, Improved Fuel Efficient Vehicles

August 18, 2011

GM has been realizing that they now cater to a group looking for high quality, highly efficient car models.  And they’re deciding to make a step in the right direction and invest in what the customer wants.  Check out our Chevrolet and GM dealership at Jessup Auto Plaza located in Cathedral City for local La Quinta Chevrolet deals.

For GM, keeping up with the current demand has encouraged them to put a $2 billion pot on their U.S. investment program.  These include the GM powertrain plants located in Tonawanda NY as well as Spring Hill, Tennessee.  Both plants are building unique, impressive versions of the new Ecotec four cylinder engines, which will help GM’s new models to achieve great gas mileage.  The Tonawanda Powertrain center will benefit from the $33 million total investment sent to them to support the new capacity for the 2.4 liter Ecotec engine.  And as a result, GM hopes their new customers will benefit too.  Currently, the new Ecotec is only featured in the GMC Terrain as well as the Chevrolet Equinox.  Both crossover vehicles achieve an amazing 32 and 22 mpg for city driving.

The new investment sent to Tonawanda is also creating about 100 new jobs in the plant itself and 63 more at Spring Hill.  New technology is being created for the GM models that will increase fuel efficiency and overall quality, such as upgraded variable valve timing, variable displacement oil pumps, electronic thermostats, and much more.  The new Ecotec engines are claimed to be some of the most efficient 2.5-liter engines on the market.

Take a GM or Chevrolet for a test drive today at your local La Quinta Chevrolet dealer, Jessup Auto Plaza.  Look for the models that currently feature the Ecotec: the Chevrolet Malibu, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain.
