Sound Off: Audiophiles Hail Cruze Stereo as “Luxury-Car Quality”

If we’re being honest, no one expects the factory-installed stereo in a budget-friendly sedan to be all that stellar. But in the case of the Chevy Cruze (which will soon be available at our Cathedral City Chevrolet dealership), flick on the radio and you can expect to be blown out of the proverbial water.

The Cruze bested its major competitors (Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, etc.) in a complex assessment by the Mobile Electronics Competition Association (or MECA). Professional audio judges put the vehicles’ audio systems head to head in three areas:

  • Sound-pressure evaluation (measuring volume)
  • Real-time analysis (measuring audio fidelity)
  • Human listening experience (measuring how natural and true the experience is)

The Cruze prevailed in two of the three tests, and did so well that Steve Stern, commissioner of MECA, said:

“In our competitions, stock systems typically score between 55 and 65 points. With nearly  75 points, the Cruze delivers the performance we would expect in a luxury car—not an $18,000 car.”

It wasn’t an accident. Chevrolet’s audio engineers spent a lot of time working on the layout, performance, clarity, and balance of the stereo. The specific system tested was the Pioneer nine-speaker sound system. It’s available in both the Cruze LT and LTZ as an option for $445.

That’s pretty exciting! Want to experience this sound quality personally? The Chevrolet Cruze will soon be available at our Cathedral City GM dealership! Proudly serving La Quinta, Palm Desert, Indio, Hemet, Banning, Beaumont, Palm Springs, Yucaipa and other communities, Jessup Auto Plaza would love to help you find your dream car, as well.
