Chevy Volt Goes Charging Into the Future

June 11, 2010

We’ve talked about the Chevy Volt before, and we’ll keep talking about it. There’s a lot to say about this electric vehicle, which will be the first to achieve widespread production of a lithium-ion pack battery. In fact, the battery itself is newsworthy, let alone the rest of the car. Why? Here’s a rundown of your need-to-know (and fun-to-know) facts about the Volt’s progressive battery power:

  • Lithium-ion is going by “Li-ion” for short.
  • The Li-ion cells are designed specifically to power an automobile, so it’s not just a big version of the battery you put in your cell phone.
  • Li-on is characterized by holding a lot of energy at once, holding its charge for quite a while, and being rechargeable before the battery runs down.
  • Testing packs are now in their 5th version, and so far have the endurance to go 700,000+ miles

You’ll be able to see not just the battery power, but the whole Volt, when it launches later this year, at our Cathedral City Chevrolet dealership.
